The first day of Mahabharata War

A reader asked….

“Why do we celebrate the Geeta Jayanti on Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi- when the bhagwad geeta discussion took place before the war on Kartik Amavasya/Margashisrsha Shukla Pratipada?

In India, many people believe Krishna passed away 36 years after war in 3102 BC. So, the war happened in 3138 BC. These people have strong influence in the society and they probably assumed, incorrectly I think, bhagwad geeta discussion took place on Ekadashi.”

My response…

Let’s list the claims, our reader refers, people make for either the first day of Mahabharata War or for the year of Mahabharata War.

(1) Mahabharata War began on Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi (Margashirsha S 11)
(2) Kaliyuga began in 3102 BCE
(3) Mahabharata War happened in 3138 BCE.

I have already addressed these questions. Here are the links to some of my blog articles related to above topics.
